Taupo in October, 7 in the morning, the Desert Road and everybody decides to go roof off???
It was bloody freezing!! Now if you have never tried to put a bulky jacket on while a passenger in a moving Opel Speedster I can tell you right here and now it aint easy, I was so proud of myself to have done it in one go only to find the seatbelt was actually INSIDE my sleeve........
The weather was glorious and the top of the Mountains were clear of cloud which created a fantastic photo shoot on the Desert Road. Everyone resisted the temption that is the open spaces of the Desert Road, it was a fast but restrained trip though to Taihape for a quick EggsBenny, the first of the trip..........
A VERY quick dash along Highway 54 to Fielding brought a severe but justified telling off from the organiser... we were all a bit to blame but hey I was just a passenger he he....
The last time I was at Manfield was in the late 80s when I was invloved with the Group A BMW boys, the track has been added to but the biggest change was the pit and garage areas, we used to use the old cow sheds which usually meant kicking a bit of cow dung out of the way now it's all very flash.
The day track was great fun although I did manage to spin the Opel a couple of times. Lindz and I had a couple of rides as pasengers with the mad Pom Jez and I THINK Lindz enjoyed his ride in the Cobra which included a spin at speed.
Paul Wilton joined us from Wellington in his road legal Lotus 211, this is one stunning car and must get some hard looks from the traffic boys.
The day ended with a few drinks at the Raceway Motel. Our Aussie visitors could not believe there was no Pizza joint in little old Fielding... opportunity there if you want to live in Fielding???
